DLWS strives for the 'balanced learning' that blends the finest contemporary curriculum with timeless Indian cultural values. 21st century learning environment is created through e-classrooms equipped with educational aids which are the last words in technology like Smart Boards, Digital Books and Projectors. The school curriculum is based on several key pedagogic concepts and theories which will work on three important components of a classroom, that is, the teacher, the curriculum and Technology. Darbari Lal Foundation World School will continuously adopt the latest educational techniques. It's 'Chrysalis' 21st Century curriculum includes High Order Thinking Skills, Experiential Learning, Project Based Learning, Bloom's Taxonomy and Multiple Intelligence Theory. This holistic curriculum encompasses the four facets of thinking - Critical Thinking, Creative Thinking, Societal Thinking and Reflective Thinking.

To build upon this framework, educational tools such as 'Mind Spark' (the computer based self-learning program for mathematics) and 3D labs promote learning in each child at its own pace. The school emphasizes the importance of the physical well-being of the child now, that is, in the computer age. Therefore, ECM (Every Child Matters) sessions link curricular areas to physical education taking learning beyond the classroom boundaries.

Life Skills

Life-skills training at DLWS begins RIGHT From as small a gesture of tying Friendship Band on the new child's hands he enters the school portals, creating a bond forever, to the day when a child becomes a wholesome individual and leaves the School portal...
Thus, every step in School, every day in School is planned thoughtfully to imbibe all life values in the children through numerous School Schemes and programs.

School Reading Programs

SCHOOL READING
Newspaper Time
The school is working towards making education relevant by providing experiences & opportunities where in our learners could apply their knowledge & connect it to real world contexts.

Class 1- 3 have Primary Plus, which encourages students to think productively while simultaneously developing their thinking, reading and self-confidence skills.
Class 4 upwards are provided newspapers during their Newspaper periods.

School Reading programs help young students create a foundation for life and develop those language skills necessary for success. A specific time and area of the school is reserved for cultivating the reading habit which enables the students to interpret and understand life in a better way. Picking book as - A friend for a month fosters a positive attitude towards reading and encourages students to participate in carefully structured activities. Since coaxing children to read can often be a challenge, the reading mentors at the school use every available resource at their disposal to motivate young readers with enthusiasm and skill.

Incentive that Incite

A number of incentive schemes by the school provide motivation and positive reinforcement to the students to excel their own efforts; "I did my best" badges and "Smileys" are given to encourage students. The school has even introduced 'GOLD AWARDS' for those achievers whose achievements may not be the BEST but show improvement, to make sure that even the slow achievers get an opportunity to be awarded and feel proud of themselves.

Keeping the harmful effects of competitiveness on the psyche of a child in mind, there is absolutely no scope for competition up to class II and each child is awarded for his or her own special qualities during the Recognition Day.

Evaluation

Evaluation
Detailed Assessment Program addresses the individualized learning needs of each learner.
  • 1. Assists students with regular tests to identify individual learning gaps and learning misconceptions.
  • 2. Assists teachers to identify the learning gaps within 24 hrs.
  • 3. Offers a remedial plan for every individual learner.

The evaluation system is informal, comprehensive, non-comparative and based on continuous observation. It revolves around the perspective that each child is a unique individual with his or her own special qualities, like a flower whose seed has been endowed with specific characteristics that makes it different from every other flower and all comparisons, if any, is to be done with one's own previous performance.

The key personality areas have been scientifically translated into the key curriculum areas. Extensive checklists have been prepared and are filled in by the Mother Teacher on the basis of continuous observation across each of the 3 units. The school reports to parents three times a year through a Personality Development Profile prepared for every child.

The school employs an exceptionally strong focus on integrating assessment with instruction through student involvement in the assessment process with tools as the Electronic Response System (ERS) for assessment. The school believes in incremental view of learning that all students can learn provided they are guarded with targets and provided feedback. The means provides teachers with instant responses from the students and helps her close the learning gaps during the same session using a remedial process of learning that begins with assessment and leads to reassessment; identifying and closing learning gaps followed by inputs in that direction.
